Services Overview
AEC Engineering, a part of the IDOM group (AEC Idom), provides comprehensive engineering and construction management services for a wide variety of manufacturing clients. The needs of modern industrial manufacturing facilities are very broad. There are often similar technical requirements that are common across very different types of facilities. Flexibility and timing are often critical components of a successful design. AEC Idom understands the complexities of providing services to this dynamic sector and provides an equally complete range of services with specialized engineering expertise in several key technical areas such as facility design and layout, machine foundations, blast resistant design, material handling and storage systems, tanks, silos, vessels, reactors and heat exchangers, process and utility piping, electrical and mechanical systems.

AEC Idom has experience working on both existing facilities and greenfield projects. Engineering services for existing manufacturing operations often require careful consideration of the needs of the design tasks, as well as the impact and interaction between the construction phases and ongoing operations. AEC Idom understands these dynamics and has experience in successfully meeting these demands. We have performed preliminary engineering studies, basic engineering, and detailed engineering services. Our field services engineers and technicians can provide start up and construction phase services. Our engineers have experience completing advanced stress and forensic analysis on critical or failed structures and equipment.

Project: Cement Plant
Client: Cementos Portland
Location: Lemona, Spain
IDOM provided both preliminary engineering study as well as detailed design and construction phase project management services for the construction of a cement plant in Lemona, Spain. The design work included civil and site access, primary crushing and cement milling buildings, palletizing, filters, conduits, chimneys, bagging and mixing silos, clinker storage, offices, workshops, coal storage and grinding.

Project: Material Handling Projects
Client: 3M Company & Others
Location: various locations
AEC Idom has extensive experience in the design, evaluation and construction supervision of a wide variety of material handling systems. Our engineers are experienced in the configuration, design and operations of monorails, single and double bridge cranes (both underhung and top running), jib and gantry style cranes to achieve a smooth and safe flow of materials and products. Much of our experience is in designing complex installations in existing facilities for production line retrofits. This work can be challenging due to clearance and staging complexities.

Project: Detailed Design of ASME Section VIII, Div 2 Pressure Vessel
Client: Al Zamile Heavy Industries
Location: Saudi Arabia
AEC Idom provided detailed engineering design services in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 2 for this complex process vessel to a major vessel fabricator in Saudi Arabia. The vessel is approximately 27 feet in diameter and over 145 feet tall, with a vessel wall thickness of up to 4 inches. Empty, the vessel weighs approximately 2,000,000 pounds. The design of the lifting trunions and tailing lugs used to turn the vessel from the horizontal to the vertical position was also part of the AEC design responsibility.

Project: New Melt Shop Steel Mill
Client: Celsa
Location: Cardiff, Wales, UK
IDOM provided both basic and detailed engineering, as well as on-site construction phase project management services, for the construction of a new melt shop in Cardiff, UK. With one 140 ton electric arc furnace and one additional ladle furnace (20 MVA), this plant has a capacity of 1.3 MM tons per year. Scope of design included new building structures and massive equipment foundations, scrap yard, WTP, fume filtration and utilities.
